You can see it was a temperate 74 degrees this Monday afternoon
(April 19th, 2004) when I stopped in Baker to take this picture... (In
the midsummer we've seen this thing reading 90 at 11:30 PM!)
The round red sign at the bottom is not very legible in this photo but
reads:
Baker CA, Gateway to Death Valley
At 134 feet its height is
symbolic of the highest temperature
ever recorded in the U.S. (134F) at
nearby Death Valley in 1913
