Not an early adopter, I didn't much care for early "old
school" such as Rapper's Delight or even early Run DMC.

I guess it began with 'crossover' artists such as Tone Loc
      who
instead of the usual mishmash of scratching and sampling
had hot guitar licks (e.g. Wild Thing and Funky Cold Medina).

But that's all it took... Within months I was
hearing Heavy D and X-Clan on college radio (
WUSC)
      and
seeing Ice Cube and Biz Markie on Yo! MTV Raps!

Then I did what many suburban white kids did; I began

funneling mad bank to Def Jam records, Bad Boy Entertainment,
Death Row Records, and numerous indie labels. (And began
    saying things like "mad bank")

 Not a "G"

   mockumentary

  Gangsta Rap being the
  stereotypical cliché, I was
  heartened to discover the
likes of De La Soul, Biz Markie,

2 Skinnee Js, Diggable Planets,
LL Cool J, and any others who
  had more divergent themes or
at least a sense of humor--if
  not self-referential.

This is a little hard
 to find, but well worth
 any and all effort!
 Funnier even than
 Spinal Tap, and with
 better music!

 If you've ever laughed,
 and/or if you ever heard
 a single rap song, then
 WATCH THIS MOVIE!

 VHS only, but due to
 come out on DVD this
  summer ('03).
