Yes,
there is (or was) a radio station in there somewhere! Not sure if it's
still there, but for years Charleston's NPR station WSCI-FM (89.3)
actually occupied a tiny converted studio onboard
the ship. Steve's brother Tim ("Timbo") worked as a technician
at WSCI,
and was able to get us access on a slow Sunday afternoon. |

The tiny station had
at least one sound studio with separate control room behind a big glass window,
4-track recording & mixing equipment, sound effects, etc, so it was more than adequate for doing a demo tape. |

Don't remember how
many mikes we had on the drums... I only remember being very disappointed
with the resulting sound, not because of the recording
setup but
because my snare drum was crummy (electrical tape all over it and the
snare was crudely rigged into place with wire). Shame I didn't think to
borrow or rent a decent snare for the day; on tape it sounded like
hitting a cardboard box. |

Very interesting
experience though... And the most unusual place I've ever played my
drums! (Second place being the factory floor at
NCR—that
story coming soon.) |
